Reef Mission on the Findlay and Imlay
In a late 19th century adventure tale, a diver crew led by Captain and Diaz or Moren is about to test a reef near Cocos and Orote with a dangerous yet calculated plan. They discuss equipment including a pressurized helmet, a powerful lamp, chartwork, and lines as they weigh risks against treasure prospects and the safety of companions.
Open Roadstead and Move Toward Cocos from Apra Harbor
The passage notes a ship lying inside Apra reefs two miles from a small wharf at Agana road, planning to lie abreast Cocos in about an hour. Sailors are instructed to watch the surf from the starboard port down aft and then log the course. It states the distance from Cocos to Orote as exactly 12 miles.
