Peoples' Party Mass Meeting Adopts Polk Co Resolutions
The Peoples' Party of Polk County met at the courthouse in Dallas on March 26 1898 and adopted a preamble and resolutions reorganizing on the Omaha and St Louis platforms. They call for national money issued by the US treasury, free coinage of gold and silver, a cash transfer, a high per capita monetary base, a graduated income tax, government ownership of public utilities, reclamation of alien lands, and support for initiative referenda with no graft. U S Parrall and associates returned from Port Arthur and other Iowa seekers plan to come south, while local merchants advertise goods and services.
