John B. Benson of near Mena died November 6 1898. Born June 11 1837 in Richland County Ohio he lived in Illinois from infancy. He married Anne Wright March 13 1862 at McComb and had eight children, six living. His first wife died May 1888 at Pawhuska Oklahoma. He later married Jennie Booth at Peru Kansas and left a five year old daughter. He joined the Christian church early and was fellowshiped at Mena in June 1896. Friends mourn a good citizen husband father and faithful church member.
