Water Works Bonds Sell Above Par To St Louis Buyer
The sale of Mena Water Works bonds to James G. Cahill of St. Louis brought a price of three quarters of a cent above par. The bonds, ten to twenty year payable with six percent interest, will fund the system installation, wells, and possible extra mains. Cahill submitted a $500 certified check to guarantee acceptance within ten days, with a rival bidder also offering near Cahill’s bid and certifying a $500 check. The sale clears funds to complete the waterworks project and prepare to turn on the system.

Construction Starts On New Brick Building In Van Alstyne
Work began at 7 o clock Saturday on the corner of Mena street and Howett avenue for a one story brick 25 by 100 foot structure. G L Lochbridge of Van Alstyne and Martin and Dickover are the contractors with completion by October 1. Mr Lochbridge will move here with a stock of dry goods after opening. Rogers Citizens band to furnish music for the 18th and 19th with transportation arranged by J P Landes. A rock bucket accident at the city wells injured a young man named Booker. The Hatfield picnic at Hatfeld was a success with a 27 to 3 ball game victory by Hatfield over Mena.
