Local notes authorize candidates for Polk county offices on Republican and Populist tickets including sheriff county clerk and assessor. The page lists residents traveling, property sales, social club gatherings, new buildings, and plans for Mena second anniversary parade with detailed parade order and post parade festivities.
An excursion rate of one fare for the round trip is announced by the Pytttsburg and Gulf railroad for the Mena jubilee week. Tickets are sold at stations between Joplin Missouri and Horatio Arkansas from Thursday August 18 to Sunday August 21. Also notices urge Polk County voters to pay the election fee and file receipts for ballot placement. Local ads promote land for sale and local services.
The Mena Ice Company formed with $20,000 capital, largely subscribed by local citizens. A Ruemmeli of St Louis organized the effort, securing all stock in one day. The plant will sit on Block 40 east end of Port Arthur avenue with electric light from the same power source, plus a large cold storage department. Directors include Wm. J. Lemp & Co, A Ruemmeli, J. S. Kelly, H. J. Rabb, F. G. Savage, Jeff Upshaw. Ruemmell named president. plan to begin once arrangements are completed.
Arrangements are set for August 25 in Rock with Hon J ur Choki, a prominent Democrat of Texarrnga, to discuss the issues of the day before Polk county voters. County candidates will also meet, offering residents a chance to hear substantial speaking and debate.
Ed Posey and Brack Walston have been arrested on counterfeiting charges alongside Vale. Deputy Marshal King transported Posey to Mort Street for trial, while Walston faces accusation from the Bik Club proprietor. Post office plans shift to Pickard Building on Mena Street, with Hot Springs era fixtures installed for patrons. Preparations for August 19 farm exhibit premiums proceed, items remain owner property. Prickly Ash Bitters advertised as health tonic. Kindergarten entertainment scheduled tonight with Miss Statti's pupils performing a variety of acts.
The ad proclaims that fifteen to twenty drops of Scott's Emulsion given in a baby's bottle three or four times daily will markedly improve health when food fails. It claims even larger, delicate children benefit, and notes usefulness in all seasons with a doctor’s okay. Scott and Bowne chemists of New York endorse the product.
Watch bargains listed including No 1L Raymond seventeen red ruby jewels and other watches Hampden Elgin and Hampden movements with jeweled cases and gold filled or coin silver cases. Prices quoted ten to fifteen dollars. Store at Janssen avenue offers watch repairs and sales.
