Three New Classrooms Planned by Mean Special District

Mean special district board meets with Mayor Hamilton to approve three additional school rooms and a $298 furniture order for the new buildings. Work to begin soon to be ready for fall term. Saturday night six locals enjoy a fishing trip on Prairie Creek.

Changing Locations in Mena as Merchants Swap Shops

Green and Lewis and R Allen swap locations on south Mena and north De Queen streets effective Monday. Allen seeks proximity to cotton yards to be in the cotton market action. Green and Lewis gain a better site for general merchandise. Also notes on Iowa Silver corn yields and melons, plus the start of the Mena Water Works system led by BE Maxwell.

Glad To Get Back John Hayworth Returns to Mena

John Hayworth, recently running a confectionery business in Mansfield, sold the operation and moved back to Mena to stay at least for a while. He told a Star representative he was glad to leave the swampy country he described along the Choctaw road, though this may reflect his broader view of the journey.

Turner's Association Organized Here Sunday

A Turner's association organized here Sunday with about thirty members. Elected officers include N. M. Roach president A. Clark first vice president F Rousch second vice president Pat Mulraney treasurer and Fred Steinmetz secretary. It is a well known German athletic group planning gym equipment for member recreation and improvement.

Master Mechanics Sort Engines at Division Terminals

Master mechanic C A De Haven of the southern division and master mechanic David Patterson of the northern division spent Monday at the terminals. They sorted engines by weight, placing the heavy units on the north end and the light ones on the south, and oversaw related division matters.

Pays to Plant Strawberries Sell of Five Acres Near Town

J H Hamilton sold five acres of land east of town to B M P Davis of Union County for 500 cash. Hamilton had earlier tried to sell it for 200, then planted 2 1/4 acres with strawberries and sold this tract. Davis will build a home on the property.

Noted Speakers to Be Here for Anniversary Event

The committee of arrangements says E. E. Bryant Jeff Davis and Mr. Rector all gubernatorial candidates will attend and speak at Mena's anniversary celebration and park fair with Hon. John H. Little as our congressman. Also, E P Smith hosts a live alligator exhibit at Mena Jewelry Store. it was captured at Port Arthur by Chandler from whom Smith purchased it.

Sunday worship notes from Methodist and Christian churches

Methodist Episcopal Church conducted both morning and evening services with the Queen of Sheba's Visit to Solomon as the evening theme. The Christian Church reported strong morning and evening attendance, consecration day with over fifty Endeavorers, and invitations to youth. Baptist Church Sunday school at 145 attended despite heat. no evening service.
