Width of Tyres Amendment Triggers Rural Ratepayer Debate
The President reported to a Municipal Conference criticizing discussions on nonessential items while key issues were sidelined. He opposed reducing tyre weight limits, arguing it would burden farmers, and urged opposing the Width of Tyres Act amendment. The group formed a country municipal association inquiry and directed actions including circulating the subject to other shires and appointing a sub committee. Financials and local maintenance were discussed, with rate plans debated and a 1/3 rate approved for the current year, plus cemetery trust expenses and fence repairs.
