Pleas ant Valley Red Cross elects officers for 1918 19

The Pleasant Valley Red Cross held its annual meeting at Mrs. T Irvine's home on Wednesday October 16. Officers elected include President Mr. T N Irvine and Vice Presidents Mrs. B Molina and Mrs. C Stewart. Executive Committee members and year end report are listed with donations and supplies shipped to Regina. An autumn fowl supper and dance is planned for October 30 at the Irvine home with proceeds noted.

Brakeman Dies in Junction Platform Crush

Special to the Moon reports Joe Haley a brakeman from Dauphin was crushed to death at Hudson Bay Junction near Hawke and Son's loading platform. He was discharging duties as head brakeman for Conductor Daily when he rode a flat car and became trapped between the car and the platform. He was found unconscious and rushed to the hospital.

The Beatty Soldiers Benefit League lists August and September donations from ice cream sales and numerous contributors including A. Friend, Mr. Nacht, Mrs. Dafoe, Mr. Flanagan, and Mrs. Argent. Cigarettes soap cakes cookies and other items were given by multiple donors, with twelve overseas parcels prepared by Mrs. W. C. Jr. j and Mrs. Fergusson. Several recipients returned items such as socks and garments from Elin Rasmussen and others.

Melfort Soldier Hector McLean Dies in France

Local report confirms the death of Private Hector McLean youngest son of Hector and Margaret McLean of the district. Born Arden Manitoba October 10 1596 his family and friends mourn his loss after he served from January 15 1918 training in Regina and Moose Jaw before going to France August 23 where he died in action. He left a mother three brothers and sisters.

At a postponed meeting in the town hall the Melfort district elected officers for the Victory Loan drive.
