St James Church Will Call Pastor Meeting Planned

Trooper Nevison Returns on Six Month Furlough

Mr and Mrs Thomas Nevison and family met Trooper R Nevison at Prince Albert Sunday as he returned from a six month furlough overseas. Nevison served in the army service corps, stationed at a French base for seventeen months, with adventures beyond the front lines. Pte Charles Nevison, nicknamed Did, works in the pay office at Seaford, England.

Red Cross Melfort Adds 18 Life Members and Teas Raise Funds

During 1916 1917 the Red Cross society of Melfort added 18 life members including Mrs J H Millard and Mr J B Dar nin. Pins and certificates were sent from Regina. Teas run by local groups and ministers raised 1089.20 with many donations of baked goods and knitted items.

Lieutenant Johnston Killed In Action In 188th Battalion

Lieut Johnston of the 188th Battalion was killed in action. Before enlistment he served as principal of Blaine Like high school. He was widely known for a famous incident at the school when objections were raised to patriotic songs.

Pleasantdale Red Cross meeting and fund donations

The Pleasantdale Red Cross met Friday afternoon at the school. Donations included S100 from Mr Edwards, 1.00 from Mrs Straight, 900 from Mrs Corser, and tea proceeds of 2.50. Next meeting planned for October 12 at Pleasantdale school. Also news that Lieut Colonel T. B. Perrott, overseas veteran and former principal of the normal, may have lost sight due to shell wounds. He is the brother-in-law of A. MoN. Stewart.
