Town Council Reports 1918 Tax Collections and Local Deals

At a Monday meeting the town council noted 1918 tax collections reached 43 235 with 21 585 current as of year end The panel also reported a 36 000 gallon Imperial Oil contract at 18 cents or less and tax sale certificates disposed for 1000 to private parties A new creamery and gold storage plant site will be sought by Councillors McEwen and Claggett and a switchboard update was approved to handle congestion.

Banks to Help Settlers in Seed Grain Aid Program

The Department of the Interior enables settlers to secure seed grain by financing via chartered banks. Applications go through municipal secretary treasurers and are limited to unpested landholders whose land would not be needed without aid. Beneficiaries may receive up to 1.75 bushels of wheat or 2.5 bushels of oats per acre, and 2 bushels of barley per acre.

Central Bureau Opened To Cope With Influenza

A central office for coordinating influenza relief opened at Dr Hatton's office on Main Street. Rev C Barnes directs the effort. Hours include Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 7 pm for telephone inquiries. A daily hospital patient list will be sent to the Central Office for inquiries.
