The MedicAir Rotary Rescue raised 30000 for a southeastern Alberta medical helicopter after the Manyberries Rodeo Association closed due to volunteer shortfalls. The rodeo board donated the amount, lifting the fund total to 733000. Jack Schacher presented 6835 to the Manyberries Community Association.
Victor Joseph Arnal's plea on several charges was adjourned to Thursday in Medicine Hat provincial court. He faces counts of carrying a concealed weapon possession for purposes and possession of stolen property. He remained in custody and will enter a plea Thursday morning.
The provincial government released a warning noting free meals from humans may have contributed to recent coyote attacks in Calgary. It urges not to leave pet food or pet feces accessible to wildlife and to keep pets tied up to prevent attracting animals and potential attacks.
Robert Bhatia is named Alberta's new deputy minister for Government Services replacing Roger Jackson. He previously served as Revenue deputy minister in Alberta Finance since November 2004 and led Alberta Revenue when it was a separate ministry. The Revenue deputy minister post is scrapped and Bhatia's term starts immediately.
The Alberta government says 421 of 429 rural communities are ready for Internet traffic on the SuperNet with eight still under construction. Minister Luke Ouellette calls it great news for rural residents and businesses as the network connects 27 large centers and 402 smaller communities.
Barry Bonds said on his site he had a third operation on his injured right knee. He described arthroscopic surgery Monday to clean out an infection and drain fluids, with Dr Ting removing infected tissue and antibiotics to follow.
Jose Cardinal Saraiva Martins will celebrate the May 14 beatification of a Franciscan nun who served in Hawaii and co-founded a Missionary society in Spain. The move reflects a return to pre John Paul II practice of appointing a bishop and cardinal to preside over beatifications.
In Saskatoon a friend of Neil Stonechild recalled his last moments with him as he bled and cried in a police car. Two fired officers, Hartwig and Senger, appeal their dismissals for not following procedure. The appeal revisits inquiry findings but cannot reuse evidence from the inquiry in other cases.
