Westerly Yacht Club votes to admit women falls short
In Westerly Rhode Island the nearly century old yacht club voted on a policy to admit women. A secret ballot produced 207 for change and 171 against. Wives may join as associates but cannot vote. Single women and married lesbians are barred. The two thirds majority required was not reached.
