Fire aboard the steamer John L Lowery near Hamletsburg Illinois opposite Smithland Kentucky injures and possibly kills many. Fifty excursionists and a crew of 15 were aboard when flames and oil explosions swept the vessel to the riverbank. Captain Lowery beached the ship and all on board escaped.

Train Derailment Kills Fireman in Quebec Debacle

The Troston train of the Central Vermont Railway derailed near Trierville Quebec as it arrived in Montreal at 10. Fireman Martin of St. Albans was crushed between engine and tender and died. Engineer Fortin of St. Albans and two passengers were slightly injured.

Lineman Survives 2200 Volt Shock in Moose Jaw

Manley Winters, a Moose Jaw electrical department lineman, barely escaped death early this morning when a 2200 volt current passed through his body. He sustained severe injuries to his right hand and arm and will lose the third finger on his left hand.
