Traditional family still most common in Canada
Canadian families still favor the traditional mom dad and kids unit though its share fell from 55 percent in 1981 to 44 percent in 2001. Childless couples rose to 41 percent, while eight percent lived apart from a partner, many with their parents, amid fertility declines and delayed childbearing. Ontario court approved same sex marriage the same day as the census data release.

Poorer Canadian teens lack home computer access
Statistics Canada warns that low income students face unequal access to home computers and Internet in 2000. Among 29,687 students from 1,117 schools, 88 percent had a home computer and 69 percent used the Internet at home, but lower income families lagged due to fewer parental computers and work access.
