Poultry Smothered in Morning Fire on Steel Street
A fire at 1126 Steel St. in the chicken house brooder killed forty baby chicks and fifteen hens. The blaze was reported at 4:25 a.m. by a watchman at the Lake of the Woods mill. Firefighters prevented total destruction of the chicken house but the interior was badly scorched.

Lethbridge Alberta June 8 CP retrial against a rate of nine cents an hour overtime provided. for postmasters was made at the opening session of the 11th annual convention of the Alberta branch of the Canadian Postmasters Association here today. Halifax June 9. Fifteen hundred Acadian Coal Company miners reject the United Mine Workers recommendation to return to work and stay on strike as the only means to secure higher wages. They call for sympathy strikes from other Nova Scotia coal and steel workers. UMW seeks 350 miners at the Inverness government colliery to return. The strike began May 36 and they say they will resume work tomorrow.
