Ottawa confirms a sales tax rise to four percent, from one, in Premier Bennett’s budget. He states no general tariff revision, but about 200 rate items amended. Highlights include container charges on packaged goods, tariff changes for foods, automobiles, coal, and associated duties.
Ottawa reports Premier Bennett's decision to abandon air mail, citing heavy deficits. Transcontinental and prairie routes slated for removal within two months, with possible retention of Rimouski Montreal and Montreal Albany links if companies agree to new, cheaper contracts.

Early yesterday morning on the first CPR bridge east of the city an engineer stopped a stock train with brakes after two pedestrians Fred Lites and his thirteen year old son Allen stepped onto the tracks. They were going to Dunmore Dam when the near tragedy occurred. The father suffered leg bruises and the boy scalp wounds requiring hospital care.

National Grain Corporation negotiated a $18 million for 23 million bushels and $4 million for 14 million bushels bread and durum wheat deal in Minneapolis. The settlement marks the second largest single daily transaction in Minnesota and winds down farm board stabilization price activities through June.
