20000th ride on the Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm

Richard Krieger, a 61-year-old Whittier resident, rode the Xcelerator for the 20 000th time, setting a park record. He averages 12 rides daily, with a peak of 6648 rides in 2005 and a personal best of 124 rides in one day, after moving from Michigan to California in 1961.

Medicine Hat police caught three youths after a Chinook Drive break and enter in progress on January 21. Officers arrived after the suspects fled. a canine track led to their arrest a short distance away. All three face charges including break and enter and breach of conditions.

Cherry bomb suspects sought after two mailbox blasts

Medicine Hat police hunt for suspects in two cherry bomb incidents. On Jan 19 at 9 45 p m a mailbox was blown off a Henderson Court home causing about 1000 in damage. On Jan 20 at 11 30 p m a Rice Drive S E home mailbox was blown off. No injuries. A blue Cavalier or Sunfire with pink stripe seen near one scene. Call 529 8400 with tips.

Park wardens recover bodies in Yoho National Park

Park wardens flew in by helicopter to recover two backcountry skiers found in the Canadian Rockies near the Wapta ice fields in Yoho National Park. Claire Dixon 27 and Cornelius Brenninkmeyer 25, both of Kamloops BC, were located Wednesday. Weather delayed the operation.

Damage ship MSC Napoli grounds off England as oil spill grows

The damaged MSC Napoli ran aground near Sidmouth after a Thursday storm. An eight kilometre oil sheen developed as salvage teams battled gale winds and rough seas. More than 200 containers including battery acid and BMW motorbikes slid into the water. 26 crew were rescued 75 kilometres off Lizard Point.
