Exploration for oil prospects is pushed this winter in the Bow Island Taber area. Three rigs drill test holes along the No 3 highway between the southeast district towns. Several physical crews are also operating in the district.

Command Tour Here Jan 25 for SAR Reserve Unit

Major General Chris Vokes and Western Command staff will lead a ceremonial unit inspection of the South Alberta Regiment here on Friday January 25. The schedule includes parade ground inspections by Vokes and training and administration checks by staff teams. The tour marks his first western reserve inspection since taking command February 1 1951, with similar checks planned in Red Deer Calgary Lethbridge Edmonton and Kimberley BC during January 21–28.

Anglers Invite Members to Annual Smoker Night

Medicine Hat Angling Club invites members to the annual smoker at 7 30 Wednesday evening in Moose Hall. Tickets are at Sair's shoe repair. The program features films and guest speakers. Awards will be given for top pike and pickerel catches with L Sair trophy to Bill Pears for a 24 lb pike and J Clark trophy to J Bradshaw for a 9 lb 12 oz pickerel.

The Medicine Hat Trades and Labor Council endorsed a centralized fund raising administration to cover community chest activities and other appeals. A clearing house would pass on proposed campaigns and allocate funds by percentage. Elections were deferred to Jan. 23 for new officers amid a heavy agenda.

Former Hat Resident Harry Freedman Gains Acclaim in Canada

Harry Freedman, a former Medicine Hat resident and first oboe of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, saw his composition March for Small Types receive a Canadian premiere on the John Adaskin program Opportunity Knocks. Born in Medicine Hat, he studied in Montreal and Toronto and is a nephew of H. B. Freedman of Toronto.
