Medicine Hat records 1952 as healthier overall with 163 communicable disease cases, but polio cases rose to 19 from 3 in 1951, causing two deaths. There were two more deaths this year from tuberculosis and meningitis. Placarding lists include measles, mumps, chicken pox, scarlet fever, and whooping cough among others.
Student population in Medicine Hat public schools increased this year. As of November 30, registrations stood at 2,589, up from 2,465 at the same point last year. Public and high school totals show the rise across the system.
Fire department records show 137 calls with 121 fire related actions, seven false alarms, and total city loss of 9 052. The report lists property risk at 748 000 and notes miles traveled on boat rescues, hose usage, ladder footage, and minor injuries.
