A ceremony at City Hall this morning saw city employees present Mayor Bullivant with a club bag and a case of cigars. The gifts were given by Mr. H. O. Parkes from the City Treasurer's department on behalf of all city staff.

Temperature Fluctuates as Warm Wave Returns

After a day of swings a north wind faded as a warm south west air mass moved in. By 4 30 am the thermometer hit 26 above zero then fell a few degrees and by noon stood at 25 above. The mild spell is expected to continue for a day or so.

Vancouver police probe furnace death of Emiko Yamada

Investigators in Vancouver uncovered a container of oil near a Buddhist shrine in the dining room of the home where 16 year old Emiko Yamada was found dead. Police say the oil, possibly inflammable, may be a clue and have clothing from four Japanese individuals including the girl's father and three renters for examination.

United States Rejects Japan Forging a New China Order

The United States told Japan it rejects any new order in China that abandons the open door principle. Ambassador Grew delivered the note to Tokyo, citing U.S. rights in China and denying Japan a sole right to govern areas beyond its sovereignty. Ambassador Nelson Johnson was recalled for a report.
