Alberta backs restraint amid hopes for growth in 1983

Alberta Treasurer Lou Hyndman said the province will restrain growth and focus on stabilizing the budget as Ottawa and provincial ministers discuss projects. He noted a one third rise in capital spending last spring and predicted a five percent cap on spending in 1983-84 while remaining open to western rail and housing initiatives. The Alberta Construction Association forecast for 1983 warned a downturn after a late 70s boom.

Pentagon cruise missile fails first test flight

The ground-launched cruise missile destined for Western Europe suffered its first test-flight failure near Dugway Utah after six prior successes.
