A large Elm Street open meeting drew twelve aldermanic candidates and Mayor Bullivant and Ald King. Candidates spoke in order with ten minutes each while the mayor and Alderman King received twenty minutes. Topics covered finances gas and power issues, pipes, and road improvements amid calls for prudent spending.
Pago Pago reports the Norwich City wrecked on Gardner Island with 35 aboard. Twenty one men lost, three survivors rescued. rescue ships face dangerous reefs to recover the crew marooned on the atoll.
Local Kiwanis members elected new officers at yesterday's luncheon with C. W. Niblock as president and T. R. Osborne as vice president. C. D. Sanders will serve as treasurer, W. Hucxvale as district trustee, and directors include W. J. McLean A. B. Clow P. Richen J. A. King Dr. O Boyd Rev. E. T. Scragg and J. McCorkle.

Prescott Ont dispatch says all officers and crew, including stewardess Mrs McGill, survived the wreck of the steamship Sarniadoc on Main Duck Island. The Valley Camp arrived at Prescott Harbor after 36 hours of battling Lake Ontario.
Four tugs from Thompson Towing and Wrecking aim to keep the channel open below Sault Ste. Marie to let about 45 freighters in the upper locks reach port before winter seals the neck. After a severe storm and record twelve below zero temperatures, ice formed ten inches thick and drifting ice clogged the channels, but the tugs moved freighters Sunday and Monday and the safety gap gradually widened.
C. L. Galbraith, druggist of Edam Sask, who had been lost in the woods for four days near Meadow Lake, was found by Indian trappers after a heavy search. He was exhausted and starved but alive.
In Penticton BC, December 4, Charles Oliver, head of a local chemical company, was committed for trial on forcible seizure for the tar and feathering assault on Dr W E Latimer on November 25. Bail set at 2000. Latimer, via counsel, filed a Supreme Court writ seeking damages for defamation of character naming Oliver. Oliver may choose speedy trial or jury trial next Tuesday with possible spring Vernon assizes.
An audience welcomed Leslie Bell of Montreal at the Canadian Club dinner in the Cecil Hotel. He traced Canada’s pioneer history from Cartier and Champlain to Upper Canada, Selkirk, and the fur trade era, praising resilience and vision that built modern Canada. The session, led by Ellerton, included tributes to Robb Clemenceau Stresemann and closed with the National Anthem.

Resolutions urging the Dominion government to assist in solving winter unemployment were passed at a Winnipeg conference attended by provincial and municipal officials and labor leaders. The meeting objected to the idea that unemployment is only a provincial matter and pressed for federal responsibility.
