The Santa Claus fund at Medicine Hat College raised 118 in non-perishable goods, 63.33 in cash, and several new toys yesterday during Sunshine Hour. Larry Lancaster of the Salvation Army provided the report and noted the donations will aid Santas Anonymous efforts.
Robert Thom 51, an unemployed aerospace engineer with a drinking history, was ordered to stand trial for the murder of mystery novelist Muriel Davidson. Davidson, 59, was found shot dead Sept 25 at her Benedict Canyon home while her husband was away on a business trip.
West Germany's government spokesman quoted that Yuri Andropov's health has improved and he will probably return to work in one week. Andropov, 69, has not appeared in public since late August after being elected head of the Soviet Communist party following Brezhnev's death.
Finance Minister Marc Lalonde told a Liberal dinner that the 1984 federal deficit will be below 31 billion dollars, with a gradual reduction to about four percent of GNP. He urged universal medical care, criticizing Alberta's charges and praising Canada as capable of universal health coverage.
