In Santiago police fired on rioters during a second night of protests against Pinochet, with 17 killed on Thursday and two more dead Friday night. Riot police and army had dispersed crowds after a Day of National Protest, leaving barricaded slums and university campus clashes amid curfews and tense street battles.
