Canadian Mennonite official abducted in Lebanon

Arab gunmen abducted Robert Burkholder 30 of Markham Ontario, administrator for the South Lebanon Project of Mennonite Central Committee, as he headed to work in Nabatieh Lebanon. The kidnapped aid worker lived with his wife and three children and was involved in relief and agricultural aid. Shakib Hmeidan, ABC Beirut manager, was released unharmed after being abducted earlier.

Abduction claims clash over Costa Rica border incident

Canadians protest Arctic icebreaker voyage sparks nerve for defense

Mel Hurtig of the Council of Canadians says the Polar Sea voyage touched a nerve in defending Canada as four Edmonton and Northwest Territories activists returned from a protest flight. They planted Canadian flags on a nearby island near Melville Island after attempting to land closer to the ship under rough ice. Fisher dies of cancer at 56 in Toronto

Gordon Neil Fisher president of Southam Inc.
