Canadian Mennonite aid worker freed after 12 hours in Nabatiyeh

RCMP constable acquitted in second trial in Miami

RCMP constable Michael Adrien Van Rassel, 29, of Roberval Quebec, was found not guilty on bribery theft and travel in furtherance of felonies charges involving a U S DEA document. Protest marks Arctic voyage clash over Northwest Passage

Two University of Alberta students joined Inuit protesters to drop leaflets from a Twin Otter onto the U S Coast Guard icebreaker Polar Sea as it sailed through Canadian claimed Arctic waters. Commission finds insurer discriminates against young men in premiums

The Ontario Human Rights Commission ruled Zurich Insurance Co. discriminated by charging higher rates to young single men. Michael Bates of Etobicoke, 22, faced $1,002 yearly premium for a 1976 Camaro, versus $522 for a woman of the same age and $448 for a 25 year old man with similar driving. Commission chairman Frederick Zemans said there is no scientific proof young men are more dangerous. Zurich plans to appeal and no changes will occur until then.
