Social Credit minister John L. Robinson defeated Liberal J L Wyatt by 4 702 to 1 595 in Medicine Hat. Unofficial totals show 55 3 percent turnout of 11 377 eligible voters with many spoiled ballots marked X. Robinson's margin stood at 74 7 to 25 3 percent.

Swedish firm to begin Athabasca oil sands exploration
The Swedish shale oil interests, led by Hans Lundberg, plan exploratory flying over the Athabasca deposits starting August 11. Dr. J. L. Robinson announced the move after receiving Lundberg's letter. Calgary will host preparations on August 7 with a European trip confirming start. The Swedish group joins two other firms holding ex p aration permits near the pilot plant for tar oil processing.
