Rome reports Premier Mussolini ordered mobilization of two regular divisions two replacement divisions and a volunteer black shirt division to reinforce Eritrea and Italian Somaliland. The total forces amount to about 235000 men, expanding Italy’s East Africa garrison amid Ethiopian troop movement fears.
ST THOMAS Ont Aug 6 CP Premier Mitchell Hepburn of Ontario testifies as a complainant accusing Henry M Walker of attempting extortion after discussing Ontario legislature payroll irregularities at Talbotville. Walker to be tried by judge and jury. Hepburn says he kept a guard at his Elgin County farm for safety of his wife and others.
Barrie Lloyd Steeves, a young Canadian jewel robbery suspect who escaped from a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer in Seattle last month, has been captured in Yuma while being taken north from San Diego for questioning about a $10,000 Calgary jewel robbery.
At noon the fire department was dispatched to the 100 block of Fourth Street where grass on an empty lot was burning. The blaze was extinguished before causing any damage.

Edmonton Aug 6 Rail communication with Waterways Alberta near McMurray will be paralyzed for two weeks due to storms. Four bridges damaged and embankments collapsed make tracks unsafe. John Callaghan Northern Alberta Railways general manager reported. Thomas Bell MP St John Albert NB said he will not stand as Conservative candidate there due to ill health.
Rioting workers in Brest France tore down the tricolor and hoisted the Red flag after clashes with police and troops. About 12 people were injured in street fighting as shipyard workers clashed with authorities. Port business halted and shops closed.
Mackenzie King pledges national cooperation under a national unemployment commission to administer relief and create work. He calls for a program of useful relief works including slum clearance, national parks, afforestation, public buildings, highways, and historic-site preservation to engage unemployed Canadians, especially youths.
Edmonton Aug 6 Liberal leader W R Howson pledged an aggressive Alberta resources push in a province wide broadcast. He called for a new deal to aid industry and labor and to curb monopoly control of oil and gasoline. He urged reorganizing government on a business basis and creating a separate department for industry and labor.
Four Dominion agriculture and reclamation officials prepared in Medicine Hat for an inspection trip to Jenner Bindloss Berry Creek Hanna and Youngstown. The party includes W H Fairfield Palmer Mather and Clarke connected with experimental farms and illustration stations. They will study soil drift control forage crops and district agricultural methods.

London Aug 6 The Ministry of Labor reports for the first time since July 1931 that unemployment in Great Britain fell under two million. The current total is 1,972,941 with 1,584,554 men 58,034 boys 281,771 women and 48,641 girls unemployed.
Broadcast by Professor Angus a Calgary for the Economic Safety League argues that Social Credit cannot sustain $10,000,000 monthly dividends without ongoing $10,000,000 monthly taxation. The speaker labels Mr Aberhart’s claim a delusion and critiques the idea of perpetual dividends from a one time $10,000,000 investment.
