Cargill vote ends three week High River strike
Workers at the Cargill Foods High River plant vote today on a tentative settlement after negotiations with UFCW ending a three week strike. Wayne Covey said the union recommends settlement as talks concluded around 2 30 p m. The Calgary Convention Centre hosts the 1600 member local vote with details undisclosed.

Eel Causes Power Outage In Yokosuka
A 60 cm eel struck a 6 600 volt line in Tokyo Bay and sparked a blackout affecting about 500 homes in Yokosuka. TEPCO inspectors found the charred eel on the line during investigations into Thursday morning’s outage, which lasted under an hour.

Medicine Hat approves photo radar rollout in two weeks
In a unanimous vote the Medicine Hat police commission approved deploying photo radar within about two weeks. Insp Rob Siegmund says the tool will target speeders while protecting law-abiding drivers and will operate 32 hours per week in high collision zones with warning signs at city limits.

Medicine Hat College received the minimum one percent of its operating budget as a provincial performance bonus after enrolment fell seven percent from 1993-94 to 1994-95. President Ralph Weeks argues enrolment should not be the sole measure while other colleges like Grant MacEwan Mount Royal Olds and Lethbridge receive higher bonuses. The province allocates 15 million based on graduate satisfaction employability affordability and enrolment.
