District Court with Judge W. C. Dowdy presiding. Dwight Whitwell as District Attorney. O. L. Barker as District Clerk. Clara Travillian appears as Assistant and Justine Abernathy serves as court reporter.
County court records show Judge W E Button presiding with W C Hagy serving as County Clerk. Proceedings details are not provided in the fragment.
Raymond J. Raines wed Patsy Porter and Jimmy L. Hollandsworth married Helen Marie Perry. Ewell Robert Loyd joined Lona Eldora Alley, Geral Dean Noles wed Mildred Carolyn Clark, and Carroll Fox married Gaynell Ann Stark.
John Paul Dear was charged with injury to property and fined 25.00 with costs 52.75. Jerry Curley Thomson faced the same charge and penalties of 25.00 and 52.75 in costs.
Walter Massie announces the Higgins-Enloe club as the first to reach the Collins County Fair Exhibit building fund quota of $100. The club members have paid, and several merchants and local businesses including Roy C. Roberts Johnson Furniture Co Finney's Bakery and the Daily Courier Gazetter have contributed $100 each.
Mrs. Dick Horn and Mrs. James Stewart helped Greenville Jaycee-Ettes affiliate with the state organization at a Greenville Chamber of Commerce meeting. Horn and Stewart presented the scrapbook and certificates won by McKinney Jayceeettes and explained state functions, with broad attendance and enthusiasm in Greenville.
Chief Euel Ford reports two McKinney boys fined for destroying public property including parking meters around the Court House. Ten more cases will be sent to the Grand Jury as it sits. Ford thanks merchants and citizens for coop in keeping streets clean. Miss Bessie Bell moved home from City-County Hospital after a few days recovery.
Mr and Mrs Jack Ray and their son Pandy of Terrell recently visited his parents Mr and Mrs Reuben Ray in this area.
Plano Masonic Lodge No 768 announces an open meeting on Thursday June 28 at 8 p m at the Masonic Hall for the installation of newly elected officers. Olney Carpenter will serve as installing officer and refreshments will be provided.
The Collin County Banker's Association held its quarterly meeting in Prosper with President Jack M. Scott presiding. A banquet followed at the Prosper Methodist Church basement. An economist from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas spoke on the Soil Bank. The next meeting is planned for September in Anna.
The entrance to the water filtration plant under construction for the North Texas Municipal Water District northeast of Wylie was completed last week. Concrete was poured for vehicle access from Highway 78 across the Santa Fe Railroad into NTMWD property.
McKinney business and professional people will observe Independence Day with closed shops and offices next Wednesday July 4. Banks Collin County National and Central National, the McKinney Post Office, and the Daily Courier Gazette will suspend services. Police departments stay open with traffic emphasis.
The Sheriff's Department holds a Plano man for alleged shooting of three other Plano men in a Saturday night affray around 8:30. Horace Doris Red Brown and Maymon Harris were taken to the City Hospital with injuries. Dorty was shot in the head but released.
Mrs Walter Fillis is visiting her sister Mrs Lacey McMenamy in Wichita Falls this week.
The Con federate Veterans and Old Settlers Picnic Association sets the 1956 picnic for July 23 to 28 with Bill Hames carnival midway shows for 46th year. Parade is at 2 PM Tuesday July 24 in downtown McKinney and the old fiddlers contest leads Thursday July 26 at 8 PM with prizes for top musicians. Anthony Geer of Anna is president.
Haggai Council No 38 elected new officers at the meeting Tuesday night. New officers include E L Lawrence Thrice Illustrious Master Carter Yoder Right Illustrious Deputy Master Walter Commons Illustrious Principal Conductor of Work Luther Pearson treasurer John C Sears recorder Woodall Durham Captain of the Guard Early B Milstead Conductor of Council Jim L Ferguson Stewart Joe D Dungan Sentinel. They will be installed Tuesday night June 26 with Haggai Chapter officers.
Sam Purtle of the State Highway Patrol cites a wreck on Highway 289 two miles north of Celina at 5 o'clock Monday afternoon. Willie Olen Rolater of Celina drove the pickup, and Charles Elwyn Price of Garland the car. The driver Price was attempting to pass Rolater who was turning into his driveway when the collision occurred. Estimated damage totals: pickup $250, car $175.
First grade students enrolling at Princeton in September may receive physical examinations Friday June 29 at 9 30 a m in the Princeton Homemaking Department under county health officials. Parents are asked to bring their children.
Miss Jane Pool of Nevada attends a two month summer school term at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her mother Mrs H T Pool and aunt Mrs Walter Silvius, both of Nevada, are visiting this week.
Mrs Virgie McCain returns to her Nevada home after a visit with her brother C G Gay and wife in Haskell.
Mike Ramos from Cottage Hill travels with his mother Mrs Lin Greer and Mr Greer on a vacation across Dallas in Texas, through New Mexico Arizona and Colorado exploring scenic spots and local cultures.
President signs H. R. 9739 pledging two million dollars for the operation and modernization of the Veterans Hospital in McKinney Texas. The release is attributed to Sam Rayburn.
The McKinney Pants Manufacturing Company hosted its annual barbecue at the Jaycee Recreational Center Friday evening with about 700 employees, families and guests. The Haggar Company’s 30th anniversary was celebrated. Ed Haggar spoke and Raul Saba led as MC. Attendees enjoyed barbecued ham and beef, bingo, a $25 cash door prize, and performances by local children and guests from Dallas and Greenville.
Chief Ford reports two drunks and two DWIs over the weekend. Officers investigated wrecks on East Virginia Street Highway 75 Elm Street Graham Street and Tennessee Standifer Street with total damage listed. Charges of driving while intoxicated assault on peace officer and resisting arrest filed against a McKinney man.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Long have returned from a two week vacation visiting Washington DC Philadelphia New York City and Niagara Falls. Mr. Long serves as assistant vice president of Collin County National Bank and Mrs. Long works for Texas Power and Light Company.
Mrs. William J. Perser was removed to her home near Princeton from City-County Hospital where she had been a patient for several days. The Harris ambulance took Perser to her home.
Identification of the unknown man found beneath a bridge on the Joe Clarkson farm in North Collin was made Monday. The 94 year old John Benson of Antlers Oklahoma had been missing since June. A book of matches advertising Sheriff Wade’s candidacy led to the identification.
Mr and Mrs Jerry Roberts of this city escaped serious injuries when their car ran off Chambersville road onto Highway 75 north of McKinney Thursday night. The vehicle rolled down a 15 to 20 foot embankment and landed on its side. State Highway Patrol man Sam Purtle investigated with city chief Euel Ford directing traffic.
Mrs. Walter Reese Jr of Waco visits her sister Mrs. Jim Taylor. They spend Wednesday in Paris as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dowell Taylor.
J W Shields Jr of Irving spent a few days last week with his grandparents Mr and Mrs Shields.
Mr and Mrs J M Whisenant and their sons Bennie Billie Don and David left Friday for Miami Florida to attend the Lions International convention.
Douglas Tarvin and C A Young resign from the McKinney Independent School District Board of Equalization in Collin County Texas. They state they cannot fairly value property as required by Texas law and fear future tax increases, saying values already set are inconsistent with their judgment.
Additional donors to the fair building fund are announced with Walter Massie as city chairman. McKinney Lions Club contributes 100 dollars, Witherspon Paint & Wallpaper 50, Jess Taylor 50, Central National Bank 100, Collin County National Bank contributes 100.
McKinney Chapter 38 Disabled American Veterans installed new officers at a Memorial Library meeting. Weldon Alexander as Commander Paul Worden as Judge Advocate Lewis Chandler and George Coffman as Chaplains, George Fleming as Senior Vice Commander. National service officers Billy Kerby and Bill Lawrence led the installation and a membership drive will follow inviting all Collin County disabled veterans to attend. Sunday guests included Mrs. and Mrs. Wesley Pafford and Mr. Frank Pafford from Arlington, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Pafford and daughter from Dallas.
The McKinney Independent School District announces a twofold purpose of its property re evaluation to ensure equity among taxpayers and to raise funds for new school buildings. The Equalization Board, led by H L Shoap Roy Roberts and Frank Blackwell, will meet daily through July 3, inviting property owners to seek fair values.

Deputies Day and Hatfield arrested a drunk near Allen on Highway 75 at 3 30 a m Saturday morning June 26.
A Dallas man, Henry Wortham Williams Jr. 39, was killed when his Braniff Airways car collided with a telephone pole on Highway 75 north of McKinney. Passenger Margery Bates 28 of Dallas was badly hurt and rushed to City-County Hospital. Williams, born 1917, was a Braniff pilot and member of Grace Bible Church. survivors include his wife, a stepdaughter, his mother, a brother, and two children. The crash tore the car apart and authorities investigated with local and state officers. Interment is planned in Dallas after a Saturday service at Rew Comey cityh.
