Higley Says He Was Misquoted On VA Hospital Closing

The Hospital Committee of the Chamber of Commerce met with Harvey V. Higley and Dr. W. H. Buckholts to discuss VA plans. Higley stated no closing in 60 days and renovations will use beds at McKinney Hospital during repairs. Buckholts estimated 18 months to repair Old Lisbon Hospital if funds and VA work follow through. The committee continues to pursue the future of the McKinney VA Hospital.

Hansford Ray reports NIWD reservoir project progress at the Chamber of Commerce meeting. Most sites secured. work on schedule. Lavon water expected by early 1957. McKinney VA Hospital to close after Lisbon opens in 60 days

VA Administrator Harvey Higley toured Dallas area facilities and said the McKinney hospital will close when the Lisbon hospital is ready. The downtown clinic likely moves to the new center, with 781 total beds planned between both facilities.

Two Cars Damaged In Tuesday Wreck

David Dwan Wilson of this city and Claud Lee Phillips Route 4 McKinney escaped injuries when their cars collided on South Tennessee Street Tuesday afternoon at 2 oclock. Wilsons 52 model car received 150 damages. Philips car damage was estimated at 175. Mr and Mrs Joe VanBeavers rejoice over the arrival of a baby daughter Janice born recently in the Webb clinic at Farmersville.

McKinney VA hospital to close. patients moved to Dallas facility

VA official Harvey V. Higley said within a year McKinney’s 500 bed hospital will close and about 450 patients will transfer to the new 784 bed Dallas Veterans Hospital on the same grounds. The move includes outpatient clinic relocation and remodeling of the old McKinney building.

Families of North Star District Boy Scout leaders and their scouts are invited to the annual Scouters Picnic at Clear Lake Park Thursday at 7 p.m. Each family brings a covered dish and drinks and eating tools. Rayburn Announces McKinney VA Hospital Becomes Permanent

Speaker Sam Rayburn in a three way telephone call with C Hansford Ray and Mayor New some said the McKinney Veterans Administration Hospital was designated a permanent medical and surgical hospital on March 4 1952 and funding will be spent this year and next to finalize the status. The Hospital Committee led by Hansford Ray had worked for years with Rayburn to attain permanent designation.

C H Ray of McKinney is named a member of the Water Conservation Committee of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce. Charlies F Hawn of Athens, president, announced the appointment as the chamber advances its program to ease the region's water problem. City Arrests Five For Drunkenness and Forgeries

Chief Otho Nitecholas reports five arrests for drunkenness over the weekend. Two others are jailed for forgery. The sheriff's night patrol arrested a colored man Sunday for driving while intoxicated. Local residents Bill Jetton and Georgia Branch visited relatives in Westminster and Belton.

VA chief to inspect McKinney hospital before closing

INS reports Veterans Administration official Harvey Higley will inspect McKinney Hospital today as the 450 patients there are slated to move to the new $10 million Lisbon campus in Dallas. A 1947 presidential order requires the McKinney unit's closure once Lisbon is complete. The rollout involves moving some patients from Dallas’s old facility first and renovating the old hospital. combined capacity will be 764 with new mental and tuberculosis beds. Higley will also tour Bonham Lisbon and Houston facilities on his Texas swing.

First Hijacking Reported in Collin County Near McKinney

Raymon Jageman of San Antonio was hijacked early Tuesday near Breezy Hill on Highway 75 five miles north of McKinney. Two young men stole a 17 jewel wristwatch about $45 to $50 and his car keys after waking him as he slept in the car. Sheriff Floyd Williams and deputies opened an investigation. it is only the second hijacking reported since he took office two and a half years ago.

Cars Damaged In Accident Here Saturday

A wreck at the corner of Tennessee and Erwin Streets Saturday afternoon at 3 10 o clock caused $150 damage to a 1941 model vehicle and the 1949 car was reported a total loss. Drivers Alvin Warden of Van Alystne and Tommy Wilson of McKinney were uninjured. Offi cers Aubrey Mayse and Herman Head filed the report.
