Chicago based Ero Manufacturing elected William J. Heiman president succeeding Howard F. Leopold who remains chairman. Heiman a 33 year veteran oversees a 359,500 share float and a 22 percent net profit gain for year ended Jan 31. Dividends of 12.5 cents quarterly plus an extra 12.5 cents were declared payable July 15 to July 1 record. A restricted stock option plan for 25,000 shares was approved. Heiman has long ties to Crystal Lake and McKinney Texas installations and serves on local boards and civic groups.
A plane from Lam Esa Airport crashed soon after liftoff, killing the pilot identified as C. The incident occurred shortly after departure, prompting an emergency response and investigation into the cause.
At Cape Canaveral the Atlas ICBM lifted off at 9 50 a m est on a 5000 mile flight toward the Atlantic coast as part of a continuing test program. Officials said the operation would assess power and guidance functions of the nation s top war ready long range rocket with no nose cone recovery planned.
Chamber of Commerce directors met Tuesday afternoon for monthly reports and business discussions before summer adjournment. President Gordon Roberts presided. L. E. Powers of White's store received a $10 Smith Drug Company gift certificate. The meeting approved forming a committee for remodeling the Chamber office and noted District 1 regional meeting at the First Methodist Church Thursday. New members and city improvements were reported along with manufacturing interest outside city limits. Six new members were welcomed including Clyde Emmons and other listed local businesses.
A special district meeting for World War I veterans is set for Sunday June 26 in the Mineola high school auditorium. Officers for 1960 61 will be elected and registration begins at 9 a.m. with a 10 a.m. joint gathering and 11 30 a.m. lunch recess. The event includes separate sessions for officers and veterans.

The McKinney Youth Foundation runs a supervised play program from 8 a.m. to 12 noon Mondays through Thursdays ending August 11 with activities including softball tennis basketball volleyball and swimming. The program was launched by a Temporary Parents Committee formed from PTA and local leaders and later became a full youth foundation with a board of directors. Supervisors Chas Qualls and Scott Johnson lead a team of ten club girls assisting with activities. The effort aims for an all year program with future use of the Texas Textile Foundation Community Center for next summer.
Police scan for a teenage white man in a chain linked attack on an 80 year old widow and her 94 year old aunt. The assailant entered the home at night, covered the victim with a blanket, and held part of a sheet in her mouth. The victim described the suspect and noted vision issues for the elderly residents.
Representatives of Chamber of Commerce in District 1 of the East Texas CC will hold the regional membership meeting at the First Methodist Church in McKinney Thursday. Luncheon will be served for those with reservations and the afternoon will be given over to a business session.
Additional donors to the Chilean disaster relief fund have been received at the local Red Cross office. Executive director Mrs. Elmo Cloyd announces contributors including Rev. D. Lindsey H. D. Mouzon Jr. Mrs. Myrtle Knott and Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McCoy.
Robert F. Wagner today claimed Sunday June 26 as Helen Keller Day to honor her. Miss Keller will celebrate her 80th birthday on Monday at the event.
R J Reynolds Tobacco Co appointed a new president after a Tuesday election. Winston-Salem, North Carolina reporters note the leadership change at the tobacco firm.
Mr. and Mrs. Laud Howell Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mayes Mr. Gene Hays and Mr. Dennis Scott will travel to Miami Beach Florida to attend the Kiwanis International Convention. Howell is local club president and Hays Scott serve as vice presidents. They expect to be away for the rest of the month.
Dallas youth Kenneth Ward, 14, drowned Tuesday after falling from a dam at Grapevine Lake during a fishing trip with his brother who tried unsuccessfully to rescue him.
