An extended hot spell persists with temperatures reaching 104 degrees Tuesday afternoon. Weather observer Skelton notes unusually dry conditions with low humidity, masking discomfort as residents anticipate higher readings into August while Jeannette Corry travels south with a Delta sorority group.
W F Turnbow aged 78 died at Forest Grove after long county residence. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon conducted by ministers Greer Snider and Sni. Interment in Fit L cemetery. Survived by four children, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sisters Mrs Berry and Mrs Landers, and brothers Jim and John Turnbow. Widely known in the area with a late wife passing Oct 17 1918.

Survivors include his wife Jennie, two daughters, his mother Myra J. D. Cooper, and three brothers. He was active in Masonic and Round Table groups.
Up to Saturday night 185 cars of onions had shipped from ten locations with two freight trains running since harvest began about three weeks ago. Mrs Lacy Caldwell wife of L L Caldwell banker of Garland and Brownwood died instantly when the sedan they rode in collided with a truck on the Northwest near Dallas early Monday. Mrs Glenn Scott of Alien and Mrs G Edward Bolger of Farmersville are at the University of Texas Austin for a six week course toward BA degrees. Both are teachers at Alien Public school, daughters of Dr and Mrs M O Perry. Bolger is wife of Perry Funeral Home manager. Scott is wife of Glenn Scott, partner with Leonard Cole in Scott Cole Co. in Alien.
W S Giles Route 2 Anna and Son Vernon visited McKinney on Wednesday as business visitors. Giles, a Spartanburg native, has lived in Texas for 30 years on his estate one mile north estminster. The Giles family is well regarded in Northeast Collin County. Mrs Lillis Montgomery, daughter of former County Tax Assessor Lx, is a patient in McKinney City Hospital after a major operation Tuesday.
McKinney officials schedule an all day Independence Day program with Dallas Fort Worth and Denison visitors. Activities include tennis softball bowling and handball tournaments a dance and an old fashioned barbecue by the local Junior Chamber of Commerce. Bobby and Sue McCoy, visitors from Foote, perform music at services with Rev. Cecil Grigg.
