Local observers argue this year’s Confederate Veteran and Old Settlers picnic in McKinney stands as the best. They cite a strong, capable group of officials and business leaders backing the event and the picnic committee’s tireless work for the gathering.
Prospects indicate bountiful crops of cotton corn hay onions and other staples in Col in county farmers report strong yields. When harvests succeed farmers plan celebrations with funds from proceeds and family gatherings to mark the season.
The picnic will feature the W. H. Hames Great Shows No 1 providing all kinds of entertainment for thousands of visitors. The entertainment committee includes J. H. Neilson W. C. Dowdy and W. A. Finch Sr.
The committee plans a four day program at the grandstand with splendid speakers. Texas statesmen and other notable figures are expected to attend, with the hope that one of the state's greatest orators will be present for the occasion.
Tom Scott named chairman of the new Yo-Yo event at the picnic. The addition marks a notable phase in the year’s educational program, promising one of the most interesting features of the event.

County Treasurer BEFP Kirby led a Monday fishing trip on East Ork near Clearlake in southeast Collin with two daughters Thelma and Annate Kirby, Geneva Horn, Annabel Neely, and young Jack Kirby. They caught fresh fish and shared a noonday fry.
Unconfirmed Telegraphen Union dispatch from Constantinople reports Leon Trotzky former Soviet military leader will apply for permission to enter the United States and may seek support from the American Federation of Labor.
Baptists of Collin County plan a homecoming at Rowlett Creek Baptist Church from June 27 to 30 1929. The event honors the oldest church in North Texas and includes testimonies and histories from former members and pastors. The church hosts the Collin County Baptist moderator Rev G O Key as host. Attendance urged with lunches brought by attendees due to small church facilities.
Masons of McKinney held a well attended meeting Tuesday night with Judge H F Lively of Dallas delivering the principal address. Rev R L Lefevre visited, while Rob LeFevre and Prof J J Turnage were noted attendees and speakers.
Uncle Josh Herndon reports $110 net rent from one acre of black land after selling nine Bermuda onions grown five miles southwest of McKinney. Jink Herndon harvested 254 crates at $1.50 per crate, with total gross $381 and crate costs. Also noting Miss Mary Ruth Sneed teaching at San Antonio’s House of Neighborly Service.
Mrs. I. W. Crouch and her two daughters along with a friend were injured when a tire blew out south of Denton. Miss Grace Ginter suffered a broken limb. others bruised. Mrs. Crouch and Mrs. Muse returned to McKinney. Mrs. Smith stays with Miss Ginter in Denton hospital.
Pastor Foy Thomas of Palm Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio is at Southern Methodist University Dallas for a summer school session. He preached at Richardson Methodist Church last Sunday. His wife Irene Hughston visits her parents in McKinney while he attends the program.
Washington June 19 Hoover's special session opens for a two month summer break with major work done. The $599 million farm relief bill is law and a census and re apportionment bill passed. Repeal of the national origins law failed. Tariff bill moves in Senate. Senate loosened secrecy rule and nominations confirmed. House reconvenes Sept 23.
Dean E V White of the College of Industrial Arts Denton and E Ross Chamblin past department commander Texan spoke at the Henry A Wiley camp Spanish War veterans meeting in McKinney City Hall Tuesday night. Out of town visitors included Lou Rowden Johan W Malone and Dick Woods of Denton.
Premier J Ramsay MacDonald said in a press interview he intends to visit the United States if arrangements can be made. He added that such a visit could do a tremendous amount of good and that timing would depend on further talks.
Mrs Grace E Taylor and her daughter Elizabeth traveled to Wichita Falls to visit their daughter and sister Mrs Jack Dale and family.
