Lee Emmett Construction Co of Dallas was awarded a 69 473 dollar contract to add seven rooms as a wing extending from the southeast corner of West Ward Elementary in McKinney. Work should start within a week with completion in 90 days.
Don Lee Dunn of McKinney spent a few days in Weston with Louis Dickerson during a brief visit.
Mrs Ida Edgar of Grand Saline is visiting her sisters Mrs Tom Morgan and Miss Lena Glenn in this city.
Collin County Chapter of the American Red Cross elected new officers at the annual meeting in the Community Room of the Collin County National Bank. A. H. Buzz Witherspoon was chosen chairman with James E. Ferguson and Chas M. Cooper as vice chairmen. Erwin L. Kissinger becomes treasurer and Mrs. Joe McKinney secretary of the board. Mrs. Eugene E. Spear Jr. was named executive secretary. thirteen new directors and two unexpired-term appointees were announced. Retiring officers include Leroy Richardson, Glenn Long, and C. G. Hays.
Joe Bailey Gilbert a former resident of Westof recently visited Mrs B F Choate during a local social call confirming ongoing ties between former residents and area families.
Al Cravens of Dallas visited Mrs. Joe Frair and her family in Weston this week.
About 14 000 visitors from Collin County and North Texas toured the 12 acre McKinney facility, a 12 million, 100 bed hospital dedicated by Judge W E Button with Rev Glendell Jones and Melvin Munn delivering remarks.
Mrs. Dewey Gamble was the first patient at the new Col lin Memorial Hospital transferred from City-County Hospital. The infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Paul Davis arrived weighing 8 pounds 9 ounces at 8 31 am with Dr Glenn Mitchell as attending physician. Mary Davis the first out patient treated for knife wounds received emergency care. Administrator W S Nichols praised Collin County and Van Alstyne ambulances for moving patients by 9 45 am Monday.
W. S. Nichols administrator outlined hospital features after working with the County Commissioners from planning. He pledged earnest staff efforts to care for the sick as Rev. George Kemp, pastor of North Baptist Church, gave the closing prayer at the event. The Women’s Hospital Auxiliaries were mentioned.
Efforts to raise 1200 dollars for furniture for the Collin Memorial Hospital Chapel report only 300 dollars collected so far. Rev. Glendell Jones leads the drive and donors may send checks to the Hospital Chapel Fund at Collin County National Bank or to Rev. Jones at the First Methodist Church.
Postmaster Don O. Davis announces nationwide lock box rent increases effective July 1 at the McKinney Post Office. Small boxes rise to 1.70 per quarter and large boxes to 3.00 per quarter. Annual rates are 6.80 for small and 12.00 for large, payable June 20 to July. Payment may begin Friday June 20.
Eugene E Speer Jr Assistant Manager at the local Veterans Administration Hospital presented cash awards letters of appreciation and a Superior Performance Award Certificate to two Supply Division staff for outstanding performance. Recipients were James C Cave Stock Control Clerk and Ridgell M McKinney Supervisory Warehouseman. Speer praised their sustained efficiency and stated their work supports the hospital's high service standard.
Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Hansard included Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Bass and family from California and Jim Cross from Detroit Michigan, visiting for a period.
Five floodwater retarding structures are nearing completion in Collin County. Site 2 A near Rhea Mills requires only minor valve housing repair, while Sites 3 A 3 B near McKinney are about 75 percent done and Sites 18 19 near Van Alstyne are about 90 percent finished. Bids for Sites 22 and 30 near Van Alstyne were set with openings on June 19 for Site 42 near Hurrrican Creek headwaters. Vegetative sodding is complete on finished sites.
Citizens urged to craft a concise campaign slogan to lure outsiders and boost McKinney. A $50 prize will go to the winning entry submitted to the Chamber of Commerce by July 5, with local development projects cited as momentum.
County property owners are reminded that June is the final month to pay taxes without penalty. After June 30 unpaid taxes will be declared delinquent and an additional penalty charged. Mrs Doyle Nelson, county tax collector, urges all owners who have not paid to settle before June 30.
Mr and Mrs Byrd Wilson of this city enjoy a few days vacation with relatives and friends in Port Arthur. The short trip highlights their leisure in a coastal locale with family companionship.
McKinney Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday under President Audie Turrentine with praise for Nora Knox as McKinney's Most Courteous Employee and a $10 Bailey's Pharmacy gift. A slogan contest for McKinney advertising was approved with a $50 prize and a Community Service Survey by Texas Power & Light discussed by TP&L, Eppright, and Breckenridge.
At the North Texas Municipal Water District meeting in Wylie C Hansford Ray of McKinney was elected president succeeding J O Wallace of Rockwall. Ray a local insurance man and civic leader has served since the board’s inception and was secretary treasurer until a year ago. Alec Schell Jr Plano is vice president and C Truett Smith Wylie is secretary treasurer. New board members include Conrad Senter Forney replacing C L McCulstion and Herman Utley Princeton replacing George Cantrell.
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Hand and Miss Trudie Hand of Amarillo are visiting his mother Mrs. M. E. Hand and his brother J. S. Red Hand and family.
Mrs. Charles Estep and Nelyne Keith along with Kenny, and Mr. Rex Malone with Mrs. Malone of Mc Kinney joined Mr. and Mrs. Horace Malone of Prosper at a housewarming welcoming the recently remodeled home.
