Thousands of left wing students encircle Nobusuke Kishi s official residence and mass outside the Diet amid alarm over the ratified mutual security treaty. Police and guards seal gates as demonstrators threaten to burn the Diet and storm the premier s house overnight.
Senator Kennedy calls for a six billion dollar federal urban renewal program to wipe out city slums in the 1960s. He addresses New York Democrats including Carmine De Sapio and Averell Harriman amid delegate votes for Los Angeles convention.
Senate clears a 748 million dollar annual bill boosting pay 7 percent for 1.035 million white collar federal employees and raises for 535 thousand postal workers effective July 1. President Eisenhower opposes the increase pending a full pay-structure study.
Deputies made several arrests as 18 prisoners remained in the county jail Saturday morning. Jim Standerfer and F T Bentley escorted a patient to the state hospital in Terrell. Ramsey and Hester Lewis arrested a 28 year old man at Celina on a felony warrant from Wichita Kansas. Fred Thomas and Jenkins detained a man at Wylie for leaving the scene of an accident and jailed another for driving while intoxicated on Farm Road 1378.
A 67 year old San Antonio woman, Eunice Mitchell, was found Thursday apparently electrocuted by her power mower cord. She was discovered by her niece, Garland Pack. Deputy medical examiner Royal Lea ruled it accidental electrocution.
Eugene J. Hicks Jr. admitted stealing 103000 from Norfolk County Trust Co. in Needham Massachusetts and buried the cash in five graves including those of his father and father in law. He buried parts in two Boston cemeteries and slept on his father in law's grave after vanishing with the money.
Army specialist Wiley Lockamy said he and heiress Nanette Wallace have not set a wedding date. He told UPI by telephone that rumors of a Saturday wedding are unfounded. The 23 year old missile repair man and Nanette Wallace eloped last month and have no firm plans yet.
McKinney police arrested a man for theft over $50 and released him to Dallas authorities. A local man was arrested for unspecified offenses, and two white males AWOL from Sheppard Air Force Base were picked up. A white man listing Temple City California as his home is held for investigation.
A one million dollar fire destroyed the El Rancho Vegas Hotel as a four alarm blaze engulfed the main building in under an hour. No injuries were reported though guests watched Betty Grable’s show earlier in the day. The fire damaged a casino lobby and show area with 200000 dollars in cash lost in a safe.
Clear skies and mild temperatures spread across Texas with a warm air mass approaching. The Weather Bureau noted a hot front could raise weekend highs as Dalhart marked 63 and El Paso 84 while Presidio hit 115, the state’s hottest.
John Mitton Addison, a uranium promoter, must answer a lawsuit filed by L and L Typewriter Co of Denver seeking $646 rent for an IBM machine. An involuntary bankruptcy petition was filed by other creditors, though Addison’s bankruptcy status is not pending.

Volcanic eruptions forced all 6,000 residents of Una-Una island to flee their atoll 300 miles southwest of Menado. The volcano first erupted April 28 with minor damage, then grew stronger with heavy earthquakes and eruptions until the last evacuees left on June 3, according to Djawarta reports.
German Defense Minister Franz Josef Strauss will speak at a New York ceremony honoring the 1953 uprising in the Soviet-occupied zone of Germany. The event is hosted by the American Council on Germany and the German consulate general.
