Worker Dies In Earth Cave In At Safe Way Site
A 21 year old Grand Prairie man Joe D Samples employed by a drilling company died Friday after earth caved in on him while cleaning a 22 foot hole on the lot where the Safe Way Store is being built at North Tennessee Street. He was pinned for over two hours and died after no response to artificial respiration. Funeral arrangements are pending with Reed Funeral Home of McKinney.

Wrecks Near McKinney Leave One Dead Two Hurt
Two separate crashes near McKinney on Highway 24 and Rhea Mills road killed one man and injured a second driver and a woman. J W Lindsey 36 of McKinney died when his hitchhiking ride hit a concrete bridge as their truck owned by Anchor Metals Co and driven by L C Wilbanks of Fort Worth crashed. Wilbanks survived with multiple injuries. A second wreck overturned a pickup near Anna left Mrs Jerry Standerfer with a broken elbow and pelvis as investigators worked to determine cause.

Five Car Collision Injures Four Near Allen
A five car crash on Highway 75 a mile south of Allen during a heavy rainstorm injured four people. Fred Wayne Akin of McKinney was most seriously hurt, with John Justice of Princeton and Elizabeth Ann Collinger of McKinney also injured. Posey, a youth, received first aid and was released. Highway Patrolman Dan Nowlin led the investigation with deputies Dick Atterbury and Robert Ramsey.

Weekend Police Report Details Stolen Car Arrest and Crashes
City police report a 21 year old white man arrested Sunday afternoon in a stolen car. Two automobile crashes occurred over the weekend with property damage but no injuries. One crash on Wall Street involved Carolina Stewart and a horse drawn wagon. the horse died. Another crash at Tennessee and Highway 24 involved Adatorene Kate and Royal D. Smith with respective vehicle damages. Officers Herman Head and Aubrey Mayes investigated both accidents and the theft arrest.

Perrin Officer Killed in Me Kinney Area Car Crash
Capt. James J. Schneider 28, Perrin Field, Sherman, died from injuries after a morning crash on Highway 75 two miles north of McKinney.
