Tragic Scout Outing Ends in Utah Mountain Crash
A Boy Scout trip in the rugged Southeastern Utah mountains ended in tragedy as a truck with 12 people aboard plunged down a steep mountainside. Nine Scouts, two university professors, and a woman reporter died. 34 were injured. Garfield County deputies found victims buried under gear and boats four hours after the crash near Hole-in-the-Rock on the Colorado River.

Two Scout groups planned to float the Roily River toward the Colorado. rescue followed as Bry An Roundy and Tom Heal from Provo walked back toward Escalante.
