Tractor Kills Relative of McKinney People
Liflard Hawkins reports his son in law Alfred Huitt was killed while operating a tractor in fields near his home between Mertens and Italy in Ellis County. Huitt, unmarried, married Viola Johnson of McKinney, sister of Ernest Hankins and widow of Lillard Hankins. The wedding of Mr and Mrs Blitt was the last performed by Dr EB King, long time pastor. Capt J A Benton and wife arrive in Mennney to settle
Capt J A Benton and Mrs Benton of San Surento have moved to Mennney and plan to reside there. He has applied for discharge from the service and expects it soon. Benton served with an artillery unit at Pt Sam Houston and organized the Burrus Rifles of the Texas National Guard. He spent time at Camp Travis Camp Bowie and with the 144th Infantry Thirty Sixth Division in France. He was later with the cavalry in San Antonio and declined overseas duty after the war ended. He was kept at San Antonio for training throughout the war.
