County agent McCullough announces onion shipping quotas across towns. Each union group names a chairman and committee to oversee loading of cars by 6 am June 13 to meet a weekly allotment, with participants listed for Wylie, Lavon, Nevada, Frisco, Clearlake, Josephine, Melissa, Murphy and more.
The Spanish War Veterans gather in Dallas for a three day encampment at the Jefferson Hotel. Dr Luke B. was elected president with J H Daugherty as Senior Vice Commander. George H. from Waco and Austin served as Junior Vice Commander and credential committee member. The meeting was well attended with representation from multiple posts.
Gladys Harrison journeys from Fort Worth with cousins Mr and Joe Brown to Louis and then to Detroit Michigan to visit her aunt Mrs Carrie Haley and family. On return she will visit points north and Lieut William Nels on her itinerary. Lieut Nelson has been at Edgewood since leaving A and M last June and has not seen his daughter.
Mrs. H. A. Finch remains critically ill at her North Waddill Street home after several days of illness. She was taken to McKinney Ty Hospital for treatment on Wednesday.
Paul Bateman of Celina visited Friday with his father Gam Bateman. They are grandsons of the late J. E. Bateman, pioneers of Northwest Collin County.
Dallas obituary notes Rev. Milholland, longtime Church of Christ minister, died at his Dallas home after a 42 year career including McKinney duties. Born in Asheville, N C, he preached across North Texas and Oklahoma. Surviving are four sons, two daughters, and two brothers. funeral plans pending arrival of Mrs. Hall from Nevada.
Rev J A Dozier of Dallas will address the McKinney Nazarene Church on June 14 at 8 30 PM about abolishing liquor stores near army camps to aid boys in service. Pastor F O Parr urges attendance for moral and physical welfare, noting Dozier is a strong Prohibition speaker with an important message for McKinney.
Two Allied merchant ships were torpedoed and sunk off the Washington coast as Allied forces report heavy fighting in Russia with 100000 German reinforcements. King George of Greece arrives in Washington for lend-lease talks with Roosevelt while oil industry stations plan scrap rubber drives.
Hon W C Dowdy of McKinney chairs a Democratic Executive Committee meeting Monday June 15 at 10 o clock in the district courtroom. He has sent letters to precinct chairmen urging attendance. The agenda includes drawing the order of candidates on the ballot and calculating each candidate’s pro rata share of expenses for the two primary elections.
Cool weather and rain prevailed in McKinney as 1.92 inches fell by Tuesday. The downpour hindered farm work, delaying onion harvest and field tasks amid 69 degree high and steady drizzle.
After a cabinet meeting President Roosevelt told reporters that nationwide gasoline rationing would not begin immediately. He announced a rapid scrap rubber collection drive to start soon, aiming to finish within two weeks, and said rationing would depend on the drive’s success. Advisors estimated substantial rubber stockpiles exist if the public cooperates.
At the quarterly Baptist Women’s Missionary Union meeting held Tuesday at King Memorial Baptist Church in McKinney fifty eight ladies representing county societies attended. A nominating committee was appointed to report September 15 at Princeton Baptist Church with Mrs W E Ditto of McKinney as chair.
A 50 dollar monthly service pay bill won final House approval and moves to the Senate. The measure raises the Army minimum to 21 dollars a month and provides pay and allowances boosts for Army Navy Marine Coast Guard and several agencies with June pay checks. Senate support already exists for the 50 minimum and the White House awaits.
The McKinney City Commission led by Mayor Tom W. Perkins and Commissioners Lyman D. Robinson and J. H. arise paid off a 500 school refunding bond Friday morning. County Treasurer J. K. P. Shrader, under treatment at McKinney City Hospital, reported improving Tuesday.
A Washington report cites Tokyo admitting mixed results from the Midway sea and air battle. Meanwhile United States planes based in India attacked Japanese bases in Sashio Burma, suffering no losses but four returned damaged. In China and Chungking fierce five day fighting costs 7,000 Japanese killed. Japanese objective remains unachieved though the danger is real.
Federal motor vehicle stamps for the coming fiscal year went on sale at the McKinney Post Office on Wednesday. Postmaster Don O. Davis announced the $5.00 stamps are valid for one year from July 1 and must be affixed to windshields by that date. Stamps are sold at General Delivery and Stamp Windows.
Mrs L P Coats 79 native of Tennessee and longtime Collin County resident died at 11 p m Wednesday at her Plano home. Funeral 4 p m Friday at First Christian Church Plano with Rev A L Clinkinbeard. interment in Mutual Cemetery. She was mother of J H Snapp McKinney city commissioner and businessman. Survived by Grady Coats Dallas Mrs Joe Roff Plano S H Snapp Dallas Mrs R L Woods Churchill Tenn J H Snapp McKinney and Mrs J C Stephens Denton plus stepchildren and grandchildren.
Friends of County Treasurer J. E. P. Shrader report his condition is improving after a stay at McKinney City Hospital. He was moved to his home Wednesday afternoon following treatment. Mrs. Robert C. Kimbell and her infant daughter, born days earlier at the hospital, were also moved to their home in McKinney Wednesday evening.
The Post Office Department will issue a three cent Win The War stamp on July 4 in Washington and then at all offices nationwide. It replaces the three cent National Defense stamp and features a purple design with the inscription Win The War and a 3c denomination. First day cancellations may be requested by sending up to ten addressed envelopes and a remittance to Washington, D C. personal checks are not accepted.
Condition of Mrs. John R. Coggins at McKinney City Hospital is reported improved after a period of illness. Mr. and Mrs. C M Brooks were summoned to Fort Worth Tuesday and Mr Brooks, who suffered cuts and bruises, is also improving.
A baby boy arrived to Mr. and Mrs. C A Todd of Donna. J C Erwin Jr returns from University at Austin this weekend. Edwin Lee Burton, UT student, comes home tomorrow. Grace Wilmeth travels to Denton for summer Normal. Prof F W Barrows hired as McKinney Merchants Band director. Miss Toby Morris of Fort Worth visits Kinney. Silas Walker family heads to Paducah for several days by car. Douglas Erwin and Francis Nenney return from Austin College Sherman. Roy McWilliams family visit in Kinney. Annie Laura Wilson and Katherine Thompson return from Trinity University. Prof C T Eddins and family travel to Honey Grove for a visit. They travel in their new Mackay.
