Youths from eight through teens sign up at the Jaycee Community Center for a 10 week summer program. Activities include swimming Red Cross lessons handicrafts and various sports.
The McKinney Jaycees urge Collins County girls to enter the Miss Collin County contest with a $200 scholarship reward, a $125 wardrobe, a trophy and an expense paid trip to Fort Worth for Miss Texas. Deadline is Thursday midnight. contest on June 17 spans divisions from ages 4 to 28. Applications available at the McKinney Chamber of Commerce.
The McKinney holiday program begins its fund drive with a $24 goal set by the Finance committee. As of May 31, donations and pledge cards have been mailed to local merchants who sponsor the program annually. Respondents are asked to return cards to the Chamber of Commerce by June 15 to aid Christmas season plans. Bob Winders chairs the committee with Julia Walters and Ben Whisenant as co chairs.
Princeton School Bond election postponed for a month to July due to financing legalities. Voters were to authorize 500000 dollars in bonds, 375000 for a new high school building and 125000 held in reserve. Current high school enrollment is 150, expected 250 in five years. the plan includes a combined gymnasium auditorium cafeteria and vocational facilities.
James Meredith rapidly recovered from shotgun wounds after a sniper attack during a walk across Mississippi to spur black voting. Aubrey James Norvell, a Memphis contractor, admitted shooting and was held for a preliminary hearing later postponed. Bond was estimated at $25,000, with grand jury action possible in November.
McKinney City Council approved an intensified oiling and topping program to ease dust on streets. The effort aims to clear dust within two to five years, with work starting this week and completion projected by June.
Miss Kathy Oliver 18 daughter of Mrs Jame Cutie of 906 We Haunt Ss McKinnes will compete in the Miss Collin County beauty pageant on June 17. She is one of six entrants with deadline for Jaycees contest entries set for Thursday midnight. The pageant is open to single women ages 18 to 28 residing in Coll County and Miss Oliver, a McKinney High School graduate, is listed after talent.
A P Rollins, longtime North Texas Municipal Water District manager and Col lin County native, died Monday night at his Garland residence. Funeral arrangements and burial at Restland Memorial Park in Richardson are pending. He leaves a wife, three sons, several brothers and sisters, and other relatives.
