Raymond Neal president of the Greater McKinney United Fund calls attention to a meeting of the Budget and Admissions Committee on Thursday and Friday afternoons June 8 and 9 at 3 p.m. Hearings will be held for agencies supported by the UF all of whom have been notified to attend and bring their budgets for the coming year. The meeting will be held in the Directors Room of the Central National Bank.
Collins Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met in the Doctor's Lounge June 1 with Mrs. Joe M. McKinney presiding. Dr D L McKellar spoke as Collin County American Cancer Society chairman urging county wide mailings this June. Meetings were scheduled for June 12 at 9 30 a m and 1 30 p m in the Doctors Lounge. No July or August meetings. next to be September 7 in the Lounge. Refreshments served.
Bryan White son of Mr and Mrs Hubert White received the Arion award at McKinney High School graduation exercises. The honor recognizes most progress in the four years of band study. White played in the school band and stage orchestra and was chosen for the Dallas area band for two years. He plans to attend Texas Tech in September and will assist on the family farm this summer.
Mrs J M Whisenant chair man of Volunteers appeals to Collin County youths to join the Red Cross youth program at the VA Hospital this summer. Interested individuals aged 16 or older should report to Building 104 on Monday morning June 5 at 9 00 a m for a full explanation of the program and duties.
Mrs Dennis Cameron of Capeville will visit McKinney on Wednesday. Mrs Cameron, Miss Lerner Ann Montgomery and O C Hanby of Mesquite plan a weekend trip to Los Angeles California. Montgomery a Mesquite teacher goes to Alaska for the summer to teach Mission work in Vacation Bible Schools.
District Court lists new suits including Taylor vs Superior Insurance and Renfro vs Renfro, plus multiple divorces and damages actions. County Court notes marriage licenses for Barrett Hester, Barron Braswell, Carter Lester, Stiles Graves, Woodard Barrett, Dunn Nelson, O'Brien Alexander, Rutherford May, and guardianship filings for Gertrude Press and Charles Wokaty.
An 18 year old white youth was jailed 112 miles north of Celina by Sheriff Hand and deputies. He faces rape charges involving a six year old near Celina. Deputies Jenkins and Thompson investigated a burglary on State Highway 5 near Allen. Stolen items included a TV set rifle and shotgun. Sunday night two white males and a white female from Farmersville were arrested, one for driving while intoxicated and two for drunkenness. City officers detained two white males for interfering with an accident report. Five Negroes jailed for gaming and a white man for impersonating a Naval Shore Patrolman. There were 15 prisoners in County Jail Monday.
Mr and Mrs Bowen Williamson attended graduation exercises at Southern Methodist University in Dallas on Monday evening. Their son Jerry Williamson received his degree.
Junior Chamber of Commerce hosts Miss Collin County pageant rehearsal at McKinney High School auditorium Thursday. Schedule lists Junior division 6:15, Intermediates 7:15, Seniors 7:45, Open division 8:45. Open winner advances to Miss Texas. current titleholder Louann Johnson. Tickets $1 general, $1.50 reserved at bank, pharmacy, or high school Friday night.
Jerry Truett, lifeguard, says season tickets for the Community Center pool remain on sale. The pool opens to the public daily 1 to 5 PM from June 12, with Youth Foundation running a summer program that day. Tickets cost 3 dollars. adults pay 35 cents per visit and children 25 cents. The pool is closed Sundays.
McKinney youths ages 8 16 may join a 10 week free program sponsored by the Youth Foundation. Registration starts Thursday and Friday with slips at the Community Center. 8 to 12 year olds meet M W F 8 am to noon. 13 16 year olds Tue Wed mornings.
E A Randles Vocational Agriculture teacher at McKinney High School has been confined to Wysong Hospital for several days undergoing surgery. He remains under medical care with updates expected.
The first Pack No. 291 meeting, sponsored by the V A Hospital, was led by Cub Master Ambrose Wilson in the Annex of the hospital. Den One and Den Two formed two dens with leaders and mothers assisting as they presented Indian life themes and a Bob Cat badge ceremony for Danny Whitaker, Mike Moss, Jay Stribling, and Chuck Wilkes.
City Police Chief Euel Ford reports May 1961 activity. 150 complaints investigated and filed for reference. 67 persons taken into custody with 82 speeding arrests and 66 other violations. 22 traffic accidents with 4 injuries. estimated property damage $6,440. Revenue: fines $3,225.50 parking meters $1,809.12 total $5,034.62. Public patrol covered 15,204 miles and escorted 14 funerals.
At the June 1 meeting the City Council approved the final plat of the Westmoreland Heights Subdivision and accepted the Street and Thoroughfare Plan May 1961 by Henningson Dur ham and Richardson. Jim Caldwell Grady Pope and Riley Boren named as the Board of Equalization for 1961 in McKinney.
Mrs Jack Curtis of Allen visited McKinney recently in a brief local social note.
Judge W C Dowdy continues as presiding over the 19th District Court in McKinney for 17 years and has held the Sherman post in the 59th District. A McKinney native and Collin County pioneer, he started in law after UT Austin and served as county attorney before returning to the bench. He is active in Trinity Presbyterian Church Lions Club American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars and Collin County Bar Association. Dowdy and wife Emily Gilson Dowdy have three children.
A check for 1685.00 for right of way payment was sent by the Texas Highway Department to Collin County. It covers the state's share of land costs on Street 121 between U S 75 near Melissa and the Fannin County line. District Engineer B L De Berry will transmit the check to the Collin County Commissioners Court. The department covers title insurance and appraisal costs ordered by the department.
Mrs Richard Roll and daughters Patty and Diana of San Antonio were overnight guests in the C T Fogarty Home here Tuesday.
Spring class at McKinney High School honored at Friday commencement. Valedictorian Claude Frazier and salutatorian Kay Majors led a list of award winners including Jim Airhart, Diana Benning held, and Bonnie Pate. Also announced were several academic and extracurricular honors across subjects and activities. A Youth Foundation summer recreation program meeting was set for Thursday at the Community Center with activities planned for ages 8 to 16, supervised by George Raymond Smith with John Truett and Pam Holloway in charge of the pool.
George M. Wolford of Atlanta Ga son of Mr and Mrs G Frank Wolford of McKinney will receive the Distinguished Salesmanship award from the National Organization of Sales Executives at a banquet in Philadelphia on June 7. He travels through 16 Southern States for The Slater System Inc. Mrs Frank Wolford will spend the week in Atlanta with her grandchildren Lisa and Robert Francis and Stephen Phillips twins who just celebrated their first birthdays. The Wolfords plan a week in North Carolina after the trip.

The McKinney Ministerial Alliance held its regular monthly meeting at the Town House Restaurant on Tuesday morning. Officers for the coming year were elected: Rev. Richard H. Thompson of Nazaren e Church as President, Rev. Herbert Dickinson of Immanuel Baptist as Vice-President, and Rev. Earl J. Rogers of Full Gospel Assembly of God as Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. Charles Myers presided as retiring president and was thanked for his work. The next meeting is set for September.
The Budget and Admissions Committee of the Greater McKinney United Fund will hold budget hearings on Thursday and Friday June 8 and 9 at 3 p.m. in the Central National Bank Directors' room. The UF announces all participating agencies have been notified to appear before the committee with their budgets for the coming year.
