Civil War veteran William Cooper mourned in Texas funeral

The hometown service for William Cooper honors a Civilian Conservation Corps veteran who died after hospital treatment in Fort Hill Guiasoma. Services were led by Dr. Minor Bounds at the First Methodist Church with Neilson giving a tribute. Interment followed with full military honors at the home cemetery.

Collin County Welfare and Employment Board Holds Meeting

The Collin County Board of Welfare and Employment met at Relief headquarters in the Waddill building on North Kentucky street at 7 36 Monday night with five members present. Resignations by Wilson, Aston, and Rice prompted new appointments led by County Judge J Frank Harrington with Perkins as chair and Whisenant as vice chair.

Grayson Farmers Collect 1934 Cotton Checks

A crowd of 860 cotton farmers gathered in Van Alstyne and Howe to receive 1934 acreage reduction checks. County Agent B F Gray distributed funds at Van Alstyne at 4 p.m. The First National Bank of Van Alstyne stayed open until 6 30 p.m. to process 281 checks totaling about 8500 dollars. Spencer Taylor noted strong farmer spirits despite the long banking hours.

Land Bank Loans Aid Texas Farmers Refinancing Debt

Federal land bank and Commissioner loans totaling 357 400 were made in Collin County Texas from June 1 1933 to May 1 1934 and about 344 000 of Coffin County farmers refinancing debts. Nationwide land bank loans reached 675 million in the period with many loans used to reduce interest costs and repay banks insurers and taxes.

Obituary: L F O'Dell 76 in Alla Hubbard community

W B Mantooth of this city reports the death of L F O'Dell 76 at his Alla Hubbard home north of Celina at 9 00 this morning. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 30 with interment in Cottage Hill cemetery. Survivors include eight children and relatives listed among those attending summer studies at N T & T C in Denton.

Neighbor Walter Crump did the work, sawing into the kitchen safe and cabinet and building storage from scrap lumber. Two coats of ivory paint were applied to walls ceiling and fixtures. She plans a club meeting at her home to showcase the work.
