Readers report daisies and chrysanthemums brightening desks with thanks to Mrs Varris and Bryan Brothers. Farmers boast good weather, fields turning to plow and harvest as Collin County praises roads, crops, and civic spirit in McKinney.
Three juries were out together in the Wifty Ninth District Court with Judge I E Wilcox presiding. Cromer received one year in the state penitentiary for selling intoxicating liquor. Webb’s case yielded a five year suspended sentence. Loutwis faced two cases with one verdict not guilty and the other dismissed. Trammell pled guilty to forgery in three cases and was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary for each count. Court officials say this is the first time three juries were out simultaneously in city court history.
An advertisement details a remodeling sale at the Duke and Ayres store opening at 9 o clock Saturday morning and running all day with exceptional values. T L Muirhead is the local store manager and promotes household articles at bargain prices. Scotty Abernathy, from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, is home in McKinney for summer holidays, son of Mr and Mrs Harvey Abernat hy.
H. P. Mouzon and wife plan to relocate to Oklahoma City where he has accepted the position as state manager of the Amicable Life Insurance Company of Waco. They leave McKinney friends and will reside at 2853 West 16th Street. Mouzon is regarded as a leading life insurance executive in the South.
Degrees were awarded to 193 graduates at the College of Industrial Arts 26th commencement in Denton on June 3. Four McKinney representors—Ave Mitchell Margaret Warden Myrtis Wmily Ray and Bernardine Autrelia Bristol—earned degrees with Bristol among the honor graduates. Many local residents attended and heard the class address delivered by John Willis Clark of the Polk?by Dr.
The Collin County Home Demonstration Clubs meet at 2 PM Saturday June 8 in the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. J N Roney entomologist from A and M College will speak on controlling garden pest insects on fruit trees and truck crops. Officers listed include Mrs K L Horn, Mrs M J Carter, Miss MaryKieves, Mrs G W Darnell, Mrs J J Miller, and Miss Gertrude Arnold.
William Gant a prominent Terrell pioneer died Saturday afternoon at the family residence. He was born in Terrell and lived there most of his life except for a period in Hunt county. Puneral services were held Sunday at the family home by Rev. W. Jackson Baker of the Methodist church. Surviving are his wife and son HE Gant of Muskoges Oklahoma two daughters Mrs Venton Jones of Moran Texas and Miss Laur an Gant of Terrell two brothers J H Gant of Terrell and M C Gant of Princeton and two sisters Mrs Susie Wallis of Wallis Chapel community and Mrs Faurn Wallis now living at Ennis Texas. The Rev Mr Bradshaw recently resigned as missionary of Collin County to accept the pastorate of the Nevada Baptist Church and has moved to Nevada to begin his work.
Fire department and hospital staff rescued nineteen patients from a burning building as flames came within ten feet of x ray films on the first floor. A dozen workers, including police and nurses, aided in evacuations amid the smoke with one injury reported and officials citing carelessness as a factor in the near catastrophe.
Early Friday a Texas Electric Railway interurban car and an automobile collided on Donley Drive East near Ross Avenue. Fourteen people were taken to Baylor Hospital with severe head and internal injuries possible that could be fatal. Motorman K G Spiele of Waco led the interurban car. Passengers include Elsie Carter Sarah McFadden Carl Sherman Velma Jones. Lake Titicaca in Peru is noted as the highest point where steamers are found.
Manager Gibson Caldwell of the Collin County Mill and Biewaster Co reports the first wagon of new wheat for the season arrived in Wichita Falls on Monday June 2. The sample weighed 58% pounds per bushel with 14% moisture and sold for 77 cents per bushel. Caldwell expects more Collin county wheat to arrive in the coming days.
Leo P Pratt died at his home 408 West Louisiana street Tuesday night June 4 at 8 pm He was 44 years old a long time McKinney resident in the grocery business since 1923 born February 22 1885 in Texas He leaves a wife two children six brothers and three sisters The funeral was held at First Baptist Church with burial at Pecan Grove cemetery in charge of J K Massie Son Funeral Home Pallbearers were clerks and friends Honorary pallbearers listed.
The Woody sisters Sallie Maude Jo and Mrs Turner, children of Mr and Mrs Wooly of near Melviney route 5, have all become graduate nurses. Sallie and Maude earned diplomas at Baylor hospital Dallas on May 27, Jo Woody from McKinney hospital and now with Barnes hospital St Louis, and Mrs Turner formerly Miss Lana Woody. The family, long linked to McKinney, notes rare achievement with four siblings in one profession.
Dallas chosen as next meeting site for the North Texas Medical association to be held in December. The McKinney session closed with no officers elected. Readings covered myocardial failures, coronary disease, diabetic treatment, focal infection sources, and diagnostic bronchoscopy. Numerous physicians attended and were hosted by local church and civic groups.
Opal Kessler daughter of Mrs W T Kessler Van Alstyne and Duer Burton son of Mrs Ek T Burton of this city wed Tuesday night in Shreveport near Austin college enrollment events followed the service with the A B degree awarded. Both couples are well known in McKinney and surrounding areas as friends extend congratulations. Monks and son visiting from Route 2 Farmersville noted as neighbors of editor. Helen Scott daughter of Mr and Mrs RP Scott of McKinney will receive her A B degree on June 8.
Miss Maurine Faulkner student at Boyd High School is a patient in Baylor Hospital Dallas undergoing a serious surgical operation. Her room is 186 and friends visiting in Dallas are welcome. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Dick Faulkner she has many local friends hoping for her speedy recovery. Mrs Wiley McKinney and Mrs Bob Bomar visited her bedside reporting she is doing nicely.
