Scattered thundershowers hit the eastern Panhandle as overnight lows dipped to near 40s in Junction and the Galveston area cooled. Showers were expected to move into Oklahoma, with a warming trend forecast for Texas midweek.

Police held John Thomas Kyle, 16, son of a savings association president, on a murder charge after the body of 19 year old Diane Kay Gable was found in her parents Waterloo home. Havana reports three men described as CIA members were executed in Camaguey Province. Two other CIA men, including former Camaguey governor Manuel E. Zayas Bayan, were sentenced to unspecified prison terms. Executed were Alberto C. Fernandez Medrano, Manuel Parade la Gomez, and Marcelino Martinez Tapia.
President Johnson wired congratulations to three Air Force Academy cadets, recognizing their graduation and noting he nominated them while a senator. Cadets include Mack Thies of Houston and Robert Crowder of Joshua Texas, plus Glenn Coleman of McKinney Texas.
Two people died and two were injured in a car truck crash just over the Collin County line in Denton County on Highway 24 at 1 20 a.m. Saturday. Summerlin and Stegall died after hospital arrival and treatment for severe injuries. Mrs. Billy Stegall and Mrs. Lena Peters suffered cuts and bruises. The truck driver had placed flares and left the scene. Denton County Highway Patrol investigates.

New Summerfield Texas authorities recovered the bodies of Colquit Sanders 13 and Robert Williams 14 from a stock tank eight miles east of town after they were reported missing at noon. Rescue units from Henderson and Jacksonville used grappling hooks to pull the youths from the tank, and authorities theorize one boy drowned while the other tried to aid him.
Mr and Mrs Rafe Piper of Gainesville spent the weekend with their daughter Mrs Raymond Pate to attend granddaughter Bonnie Pate's graduation from Baylor Dental College. They were joined by Mr and Mrs Pate and Miss Peggy Pate and later Mr and Mrs Pate and Mrs Perry Bolin traveled to Dallas for baccalaureate services for the class.
Fourteen newly recruited astronauts started a four day trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for rock studies and map drawing as part of early training. The group, joined by seven to ten others, will complete indoc training at Manned Spacecraft Center near Houston soon.

Fort Worth, Texas AP story led to Walker libel suit against the Star-Telegram WBAP stations and Carter Publications. Major General Edwin A Walker withdrew the $2 million case after the paper and stations dropped from suit. AP remains as sole defendant.
Kenneth Bruce Martin of Camden New Jersey was indicted for the murder of Mr. and Mrs. L J Strickland who stopped to help him after car trouble. Police say he forced them to a lake road, killed Mr Strickland after a struggle for a gun and killed Mrs Strickland by a head shot. Dallas prosecutors seek the death penalty at trial expected around August or September.
