A Texas tractor-trailer driven by Joe Milam 43 of Anna collided with a car stopped on U S 67 in Garden Arkansas killing James D Eldridge 54 and Lupcille Eldridge 54 of Waldo. Milam was hospitalized in Gordon with non life threatening injuries and said he was blinded by the approaching car.
Plans for the Miss Collin County beauty pageant advance with Jaycee sponsorship. The event is set for June 25 in the high school auditorium, with Dan McClure and Denney Horn as entry committee co chairs and tickets soon to go on sale. Local girls aged 3 through 28 are invited to enter.
The Lions Club will honor Jerry Sanderfer of Rhea Mills with the Outstanding Conservationist award and Roland Boyd for county conservation efforts. Rev. Sam Riccobene will speak at the Wednesday noon program at the Commercial Hotel in McKinney, with pageant entries open through June 14 for Miss Collin County and other divisions.

The Food and Drug Administration tentatively proposes banning aldrin and dieldrin on 55 vegetables and foods, with a three year reevaluation. Use would remain allowed on 30 commodities, while 109 would stay unaffected due to residue-free registrations with the Agriculture Department.
Grants for establishing child development centers were awarded to the Plano School District and Boles Home at Quinlan. Plano schools received 4271 dollars to serve 33 children with two professionals and six staff, while Boles Home got 10175 dollars to instruct 71 children with five professionals and 18 volunteers. The programs run eight weeks in summer across the Fourth District, with other districts including McKinney Bonham Whitesboro Commerce and Terrell already funded. Plans also include 31 children at East Ward School in McKinney.
City Council approved part III of the Master Plan by Master Planners from Dallas at a $4000 cost. Bids for correcting a hazardous traffic light at Highway 75 and Louisiana were to be collected, with an estimated $1,423.55 modification price and further bids discussed next meeting. Rest rooms at Moulton Park were awarded to Bob Scullin for $1,532.32.
David L. Hackey 22 learned from law books that the maximum penalty for his car without consent offense was one year. Assigned to the prison library he completed more time than allowed and a judge ordered his release last weekend. He began his term in September 1963.
City council members search after a meowing noise at the municipal building leads Monty Niccholas to uncover a frightened yellow cat hidden under a car wheel well. The rescue ends with the cat saved from harm.
A meeting at 7 30 tonight at Collin County National Bank invites all citizens to discuss a proposed Job Corps training center for women at the McKinney VA Hospital site. A Texas Office of Economic Opportunity representative is expected to attend as officials weigh the hospital closure with a 600 trainee capacity plan and future Center operations.
Police in McKinney on Monday arrested an out of town woman for driving while intoxicated and a local Negro man for drunk driving, according to Capt. George Taylor.
London reports the 90 000 ton supertanker Sir Winston Churchill was launched Monday. It is the first British built vessel named for the late prime minister and was built for a Norwegian owner. The launch was performed by Mrs Regionald Maud ling wife of the former chancellor of the Exchequer.
