Emma Rice on Han ill Street and Tho residence of John Irons on the same thoroughfare and for a time threatened a number of nearby build Ings. Loss is estimated at residence being valued at and the barn at an alarm was turned in shortly after o clock when names were discovered issuing from the Rice Bam and tile fire department s four motor trucks made the Long run to Tho scene in record breaking time. Tie barn a two Story Structure used for garage and Maolne shop purposes was a mass of flames Anci two streams of water were directed against Tho blazing mass. The fire was a stubborn one and owing to a High wind prevailing kept the fire fighters More than Busy due to Tho proximity of numerous other buildings. At the height of the Blaze the in tenanted John Irons residence situated fully 300 Yards across a Field from the burning barn caught fire from the Shower of Sparks and sub to Tention of the firemen and crowd being entered on the hot barn fire the fact was not discovered until the House was a mass of flames inside. Then the harassed firemen were con fronted with the necessity of laying Long added lines of Hose and fighting two remotely removed fires simultaneously. That they were equal to the trying emergency was attested by the fact that they confined the Irons House despite Lye High wind prevailing preventing its forts to a dwelling by Hiss Rose Allen adjoining and Separ ated Only by a few feet also the buildings of the Obed Ingram Doire farm across the Roadway despite the fact that those structures seemed certainly doomed by the leaping flames. Treasurer s fees at their meeting in this Borough monday the Mckean county Board of commissioners fixed the fee of Tho county treasurer at 1 per cent for next year which amount is a slight fractional decrease from the amount of fee now allowed.
