The Butcher gann well No 1 in the McKeesport field brought in Wednesday morning with an estimated production of 20,000,000 cubic feet daily, caught fire late the same day from an undetermined cause. Flames quickly consumed the derrick and the residence of Henry Groff, where the well was located. The gas well, called the poor man's well, had 580 stockholders in moderate circumstances. Workers were ready to seal the well into a cannon after 6 oclock when the fire started. The well lies 4000 feet from the 35,000,000 cubic foot gusher that burned for three days last week.
