Smethport slated to host the first annual Supveption of McKean County service men next Wednesday and Thursday August 18 and 19 with Bucktail Post American Legion coordinating plans. Funding and events include an ox roast, carnival midway, free acts, a two day parade of uniformed service men, track meet, dances, and a sensational Fantastic Parade.

Port Allegany Hands Local Team Defeat in Weekend Exhibition
Port Allegany defeated the local team 15 to 5 last Wednesday and 16 to 8 at Sunday’s fairground exhibition. A ragged seventh inning saw three local pitchers used as Port Allegany scored eight runs on three hits five errors and two walks. Jersey Lemon, postmaster of Worth Allegany, umpired, with his son behind the visitors’ plate. Captain Gallaghers steady fielding and pitching heavy lifting in the seventh aided the visitors victory. Reverend Emil G. Winstedt will preach at the Swedish Mission Church next Sunday at 7:00 and 7:35 a.m. Special singing planned.

A man from Duke Center died after an alcohol fueled outing with companions from Duke Center and Bradford. The group, including George Blair, Prink, Burt and John Hyde, traveled to Bradford, drank liquor labeled Juke and whiskey, then returned toward Duke Center. The 1920 census figures issued by the bureau of municipalities, department of internal affairs, show a total population of 2,803,388 in Pennsylvania compared with 4,201,995 in 1910. Most towns rose. Titusville fell 7.2 percent. Chester, Sharon, Allentown and Erie posted large gains. Smethport reports the steepest decline among smaller towns.

Royal physicians deemed him mentally unbalanced and he was sent to the State Hospital at Warren for treatment by County Commissioner J F O'Connor and George Rice with Robert Gaskin driving. He had previously received treatment at the Warren Institution.

SUSTAINED BROKEN ANKLE AT HAMMONDSPORT
Mrs. El Holmes suffered a fracture of both bones in her right ankle while visiting Hammondsport New York on Sunday. A fall on a bottom step in the Holmes car during the return trip led to the injury. Hammondsport physicians treated her and she was later moved toward Smethport for further care. Mr. Holmes made the long 110 mile drive in good shape. Dr Hamilton in Smethport reported she rests comfortably.
