Diplomas Tonight For Large Class Of Seniors

A large class of seniors prepares to receive diplomas tonight amid exercises highlighting the milestone. The event underscores the culmination of years of study and the transition to new chapters for graduates and families.

Smethport 1964 graduation honors list and program

The Iseniue class at Smethport will graduate at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium with Dr. Ceci Davis and Robert, valedictorian, and Charlotte Tanner, salutatorian, delivering addresses. Awards include DAR History, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars trophies. The program features processional, oration, salutatory, recitals, anthems, and the presentation of diplomas by R. A. Digel. Graduates include Sally Anderson, Donna Jean Bean, Marshall Beyre, Paul Berlin, Patricia Ann Bickford, Justine Bogart, Shirley Ram Brockitt, Milford Adam Brougham, and others.

Chest X-Ray Unit Visits Smethport

Smethport hosts a public chest X-ray clinic on Thursday June 17 from 12 noon to 7 pm funded by Christmas Seal Sale proceeds. The Mass Survey offers free statewide screening in McKean County via the Pennsylvania Department of Zenith and local health groups to detect tuberculosis and heart disorders in residents fifteen and older. Last year 6208 county residents were X-rayed with 86 TB suspicions and 165 additional cases detected. adults are urged to have annual chest X-rays for early disease detection.

Hubbers Sweep District B and County Track Titles

The Hubbers under coach Jim Donovan dominated Northwestern Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York in district B and county meets. They opened with Port Allegany and Kane wins, beat Warren in a key triangular, and captured county Smethport and district titles with strong showings from Shenango, Ridgway, Bradford, and Port Allegany runners. State meet qualifiers did not advance.

Will flush water mains next week Smethport

Announcement from George Bviatt, superintendent, outlines a water mains flushing schedule for Smethport next week. Tuesday lines cover Main and East streets. 14 County Boys Entered In June 19 Derby Race

The Bradford Journal reports 74 boys from McKean County and surrounding towns entered in the annual Derby on June 19 in Bradford. Classes split by age 11 to 12 and 13 to 14, with 18 parade divisions and a 1 band drum corps. The event includes pre Derby activities, weigh ins, official shirts, and sponsored by local Bradford papers.

Services Held For Lt Orto H Kane Explosion Victim

Lt Orto H Kane of Smethport and grandson of Otto Kane died in the Bennington disaster. Funeral rites were held at St John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Sears officiating. A prayer service preceded the church rites and committal at Forest Lawn cemetery. Survived by wife, parents, four sisters Hannah Elizabeth Bugetile Harriet and Susan, brother Evan O Kane of Princeton, N J, and grandfather Oring Hamlin of Smethport.
